Sexuality and Immorality



Sexuality has different meanings, depending on who you are asking, a Christian vs. a non Christian. The world doesn’t look at things the same way as Christ does.

Here is a regular secular dictionaries definition of sexuality:

The condition of being characterized and distinguished by sex.
Concerned with sex
Sexual character or potency


Now let’s look at a Christian dictionaries definition of sexuality:


Maleness or femaleness


It’s funny how the world relates sexuality literally to sex but the bible links sexuality to our gender.


The world has a distorted view not only on gender but on sex. Let us take the time to study some scripture on these subjects and get to know what God expects of us and our roles as moral humans pertaining to sex.

While we have touched the subject of sex, let’s talk about it from a biblical perspective. Intercourse is a gift from God and is intended for marriage only, In Genesis 1:28 he commanded Adam and Eve to have sexual relations because it would result in the multiplication of mankind. Sex is more than a physical act that produces a child though; it is an intimate expression of love, a sharing of mind and heart.
Sex expressed through marriage honors God and brings blessings from him.



Let’s look at some scriptural references to sexuality and immorality so that we can understand a bit more what is expected from us on this earth.



The world perverts the scriptural truths of sex and marriage and tries to get us involved in things that society thinks is ok but scripture is VERY animate about not committing.

Let’s look at some of the things people do that the bible specifically states NOT TO:


Sleeping with animals is strictly forbidden……….Ex 22:19

Sleeping with Close relatives, such as 1st cousins, is strictly forbidden……….Lv 18:6

Sexual relations with your parents, or step, is strictly forbidden……….1 Cor 5:1

Sexual relations with those who are not Christians……….Num. 25:1


These are just a few of the specific no no’s that the bible lists as sexual sins.



Why is it so important to be a sexually moral person????

It is important for us to care about how we choose to express our sexuality because immorality has its consequences.

Let’s look at some scriptural references pertaining to immorality:

1 Cor. 6:9


9 Don’t you realize that those who do wrong will not inherit the Kingdom of God? Don’t fool yourselves. Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality,

As you see sexual expression can be sinful and can be immoral and can lead you to hell… This particular verse specifies adultery, prostitution, and homosexuality as immoral sexual sins. God says DO NOT fool yourselves that you will NOT go to heaven if you partake in these things!!!



The reason God is so against sexual immorality is because it distorts his intent for man and woman, and what the covenant between the two symbolize- Christ and the Church…Ephesians 5:3 tells us that Immorality is NOT for God’s people. Sexual immorality is sinful and for people of the world.


Let’s look at a scriptural reference to validate this:


Col 3:5


5 So put to death the sinful, earthly things lurking within you. Have nothing to do with sexual immorality, impurity, lust, and evil desires. Don’t be greedy, for a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of this world.


The bible refers to immorality as “earthy things” that lurk within you. Christians do not worship things of this world or partake in them. Matt 1: 25 allows Christians to see that we must have restraint and respect, as Joseph did for his wife- and God!

Sexual sins original from the heart that means that they are of a very serious nature and will be punished harshly!


Let’s look at a few scriptural references so that we can understand the severity of earthly actions:


Reference 1.


Matt 15:19


19 for from the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, all sexual immorality, theft, lying, and slander.


Reference 2.


2 Peter 2:10


He is especially hard on those who follow their own twisted sexual desire, and who despise authority.


As you see scripture validates where these sins originate from, the heart. It also says that in doing these things it is your own TWISTED sexual desires that you are following. That is why God lets us know that he will be especially hard on those who do it…

Another reason the bible is so strict on sexuality and immorality is because those who commit it and choose that lifestyle tend to drag others in with them to participate.


Let’s look at a scriptural reference pertaining to this:


2 Peter 2:18


8 They brag about themselves with empty, foolish boasting. With an appeal to twisted sexual desires, they lure back into sin those who have barely escaped from a lifestyle of deception.


See the danger of sexual sins is the way that people drag others into its filthy web…


Ways sexual sins can affect others:

Pornography- affects many people in many ways, such as, people who watch it, those involved in making it, innocent people who are abducted or abused as a result of the production of or watching of…It goes on and on…
Adultery- Hurts the marital partner and whoever is involved with the cheater, also anyone in the family who is affected as a result.
Lust- Can lead you into diseases, and hurtful relationships, even death…

The list can go on and on but IM sure that you get the general idea that immorality doesn’t just affect one person…

Just remember the most important thing is that we do not sit back and get involved in or allow people to misuse their sexuality, or be immoral, around us- or in society if we have a chance to defend what is right.

Let’s look at two very important scriptural references:

Reference 1.

Revelation 2:14


14 “But I have a few complaints against you. You tolerate some among you whose teaching is like that of Balaam, who showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel. He taught them to sin by eating food offered to idols and by committing sexual sin.


Reference 2.

Revelation 2:20


20 “But I have this complaint against you. You are permitting that woman—that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet—to lead my servants astray. She teaches them to commit sexual sin and to eat food offered to idols.


In these scriptural references the people are rebuked by Christ because they allowed certain sexual immoralities to happen around them, even participate in some cases. We must remember that we are not only accountable for our own sins but we are accountable for the sins that we tolerate and allow to go on around us!
