CHILDREN

In order to appreciate children we have to have the right estimate of them.

I. WE SHOULD THINK OF THEM AS:

A) GODS GIFT TO US ( Gen 33:5)
* Children are a precious gift from God

B) GODS HERITAGE ( Ps. 127:3-5)
* Not only are kids a gift but they are a reward

C) CROWN OF OLD MEN ( Prov 17:6)
* Grandchildren are a crown of glory at a old age

II. CHILDREN S CHARACTERISTICS:

1. CHILDREN IMITATE THEIR PARENTS ( 1 Kings 15:11-26)
Nadab followed the evil ways of his forefathers

2. THEY ARE DIVERSE IN NATURE ( Gen 25:27)
All have different personalities

3. THEY ARE PLAYFUL ( Matt 11:16-19)
Children play games

III. WHAT IS A CHILD'S CAPACITY:

A. GLORIFY GOD ( Matt 21:15-16)
* Children can glorify God
* They consciously know what they are doing

B. CAN COME TO CHRIST ( Mark 10:13-16)
* Even a child can want to know and want to be saved

C. UNDERSTAND SCRIPTURE ( 2 Tim 3:15)
* Biblical wisdom is obtainable as a child

D. RECEIVE GOD'S PROMISES ( Acts 2:39)
* Even children are eligible for salvation

E. BELIEVE ( Matt 18:6)
* children can be saved and backslide
* This particular verse is both physical and spiritual

F. RECEIVE TRAINING ( Eph 6:4)
* Children receive training from adults naturally

G. WORSHIP IN GOD'S HOUSE ( 1 Sam 1:24, 28)
* children have the ability from birth to sit in worship in God' s house,
and to worship

IIII. OUR PARENTAL OBLIGATIONS:

1. NOURISHMENT ( 1 Sam 1:22)
* Literal physical nourishment, providing food

2. DISCIPLINE ( Eph 6:4)
* Our job is to discipline and to instruct

3. INSTRUCT ( Gal 4:1-2)
* Symbolic ( God and Man)
* Dad sets rules, children bound to them

4. EMPLOYMENT (1 Sam 17:15)
* Fathers are to train their sons, work with them, employ them

5. INHERITANCE ( Luke 12:13-14)
* Fathers are to leave an inheritance
* They are not to be greedy

V. CHILDREN WHO ARE UNGRATEFUL:

1. STUBBORN ( Deut. 21:18-21)
* We must turn them over to God and trust him
* some kids regardless of home training are STUBBORN

2. SCORNERS ( Prov 30:7)
* Scorners will be punished for mocking their dad or ignoring mom

3. ROBBERS ( Prov 28:24)
* Stealing from your parents is equivalent to murder

4. COURSERS ( Lev 20:9)
* To dishonor your parents is a "CAPITAL OFFENSE" before God

VI. THREE ACTS WE STILL TRADITIONALLY PERFORM TODAY:

1. NAMING ( Ruth 4:17)
Naming our children is VERY important

2. BLESSING ( Luke 1:67, 76-79)
Fathers are to speak blessings over their children

3. CIRCUMCISION ( Luke 2L21)
Physical circumcision is NOT mandatory for salvation but it is proven to be healthy
medically for your children so we still perform it today.
